Spring Rehearsals
The Norman Singers have kicked off their 2026 spring season with the first weekly rehearsal on January 12. The next rehearsal is January 19, and all new, and current, singers are invited. Please contact us if you have questions via the Contact Us form below or at normansingers@gmail.com.

About
We are a non-audition choir that has served the Norman, Oklahoma, community since 1979.
We welcome singers of any skill level, from beginner to professional. Some of the music is more advanced, however, so it is to your benefit to be able to read music. We are an adult choir, but high school students may be admitted on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of our director.
We perform two major concerts yearly at various venues in Norman. They correspond with the end of the school semester.
We rehearse on Monday nights from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Catlett Music Hall Choir Room at the University of Oklahoma. The building is on the southwest corner of Elm and Boyd. You can park in the garage on the south end or at another location of your choice.
There is a 10-minute break with refreshments offered halfway through the practice.
Membership dues are $50 per person each semester. Scholarships are available if there is a need.
Some of the music we use is borrowed, and we must return it promptly or we will not be allowed to borrow again. Please return the music after you’re finished.
Dues should be paid before music is taken home; we also require a one-time music fee of $10 to be made before music is issued for the first time.
If music is lost by a member, they are responsible for paying for the replacement cost.

SPRING 2026 Rehearsals TO start
7 P.M. MONDAY, 2026!
The Norman Singers rehearse in the fall and spring semesters with a concert at the end of each semester, in December and in May. Our rehearsal space in the Catlett Music Center on OU’s campus, 500 W. Boyd Street, Norman, OK 73019. We meet in the Choir Rehearsal Hall, Room 128, on the main level (see map below). The rehearsals run from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday. New members may join until 6 weeks prior to the next concert. Use the “Contact Us” page for more information.
Membership dues are $50 per semester*. There is a $10 music deposit if you would like to take your music home. The deposit will be refunded, upon request, when the music is returned at the end of the semester, or may be carried over to the next semester for continuing members.
*College student rate (with valid ID): $20.
*We are currently not requiring masks at rehearsals but anyone is welcome to wear a mask
Staff
Stephania Abell, Director
Stephania Abell took on the role of conductor and Artistic Director of NCCS in the fall of 2016. She is currently in her 25th year of teaching in Oklahoma and since 2008 has been at Norman High School. She is active as both adjudicator and clinician in the state, judging concert contests as well as solo and ensemble and serving as clinician for several regional festivals and honor choirs. She was a performing member of Canterbury Choral Society (OKC) for 10 years and also served as interim director of Canterbury Children’s Chorus in 2004-2005.
Mrs. Abell received her Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Music Education from the University of Oklahoma in 1999, where she was a member of the University Choir, University Chorale, and Academia Philharmonic. Prior to completing her degree at OU, Mrs. Abell served in the United States Air Force as a computer programmer and performed with the elite troupe “Tops in Blue”, traveling to 45 states and 17 countries, including Cuba, Guam, Turkey, and Japan on the 9 month tour.
She is a Past-President of the Oklahoma Choral Directors’ Association and has served on the board as Southwest Representative and Junior High All-State Chair and Jazz All-State Chair, and also served Ok Music Educator’s Association as Vocal VP. She holds active memberships in the National Association for Music Education, American Choral Directors Association, the National Education Association, and Sigma Alpha Iota.
Stephania resides in Norman, Oklahoma with her husband, Chuck, and their two sons.
